Alvera Olena, age 85, of Hastings, Nebraska died Friday, January 29, 2010 at Perkins Pavilion, Good Samaritan Village, in Hastings, Nebraska.

Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m., Saturday, February 6, 2010 at All Saints Chapel in Hastings with the Rev. Charles Johnson officiating. Interment will be Monday, 11:00 a.m., February 8, 2010 at Ft. McPherson National Cemetery at Maxwell, Nebraska.

Visitation will be held Thursday and Friday, 8:00 a.m.-8:00 p.m. at the Williams Funeral Home in Red Cloud, and Saturday, 9:00 a.m. to service time at All Saints Chapel.

Alvera M. Olena, the daughter of Matilda C. (Larsen) and Niels M. Jensen, was born June 16, 1924 on the family farm near Ruskin, Nebraska. She departed this life on Friday, January 29, 2010 at Perkins Pavilion, Good Samaritan Village, in Hastings, Nebraska at the age of 85.

She was baptized and confirmed at Bethany Lutheran Church in Ruskin. Alvera received her formal education attending Beach District #44 in Nuckolls county and graduated from Superior High School. Through her dedication and perseverance she earned her LPN nursing degree. She was employed for a time as a waitress in Superior. After earning her LPN degree she worked as a nurse in Superior, Geneva and Hastings.

Alvera was united in marriage with Floyd Keith Olena at Burr Oak, Kansas. Floyd preceded her in death on April 4, 1990 while they were living at Geneva. She later moved to Hastings where she was a member of First St. Paul Lutheran Church. Alvera's mother died at a young age and following her death she provided loving care for the entire family. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the V.F.W. Ladies' Auxiliary. In her leisure time she had enjoyed bowling.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Floyd; sisters, Ellen Jensen and Helen Grummert, and brothers Harvey, Harlan and Eldon Jensen.

Left to treasure her memory are her brother, Andy Jensen and wife Senga of Columbus, Nebraska; her step-children; sisters-in-law Ida Mae Jensen, Margaret Jensen and Ruth Jensen; nieces, nephews and many friends.
