Joyce grew up in the Cawker City community and received her formal education attending the Cawker City schools, graduating with the class of 1948. She continued her education at the Ottawa University in Ottawa, Kansas. On March 30, 1951 she was united in marriage with Lyle O. Her personality was pervaded by a warm and sincere smile to everyone she met, and her gracious disposition. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the UMW. She also volunteered her time with the Webster County Food Pantry. Joyce's greatest passion and enthusiasm in life was for her family.
