Glenda Thayer Hiner the daughter of Glenn and LaVona (Barnett) Bartley was born February 2, 1938 in Jewell County, Kansas. She departed this life on Friday, January 08, 2010 at the Brodstone Memorial Hospital in Superior, Nebraska at the age of 71 years.
Glenda grew up in the Ionia, Kansas area and graduated from Ionia High School with the class of 1956. Glenda then attended Brown-Mackie School of Business in Salina, Kansas. Glenda worked as a waitress for a very short period before working at the Security National Bank in Superior. Glenda began a 19 year career as the Manager of the Superior Chamber of Commerce which included: organizing all chamber promotions, the Superior Harvest Festival, the 4th of July Celebration and the Superior Athletic Banquet. She also served on the Superior Community Corporation, Economic Development Council and was instrumental in creating and putting together the Annual Lady Vestey Festival. Glenda also worked part time at Carmen's Style Shoppe in Superior.
Glenda was united in marriage to Darrell Thayer on January 20, 1966 at Las Vegas, NV. This union was blessed with the birth of two sons Ronald Dean in 1966 and Bruce Duane in 1968. Darrell passed away on July 31, 1989. Glenda married Cal Hiner on July 6, 1996 and the couple resided in Superior and enjoyed their retirement years together. Cal and Glenda enjoyed traveling and had spent many winters in Texas and Arizona.
Glenda had been extremely active in the Superior community: she had been a 50 year member of the Superior United Methodist Church and served as the church organist; the Superior Red Caps sports boosters club, serving as the secretary/treasurer for 10 years, the BPW, past president and woman of the year in 1994; Superior Country Club, Superior Hospital Auxiliary, Superior Women's Bowling Association for 33 years and past president; Superior Ambassador; PTA member and the Red Hats. Glenda very seldom missed any of her children's or grandchildren's sporting or school events. She dearly enjoyed time spent shopping for clothing; she always took pride in her appearance representing her family and the City of Superior. Glenda had been a long time piano teacher for numerous Superior youth and always looked forward to time spent at Superior Country Club and was rewarded with a hole-in-one while playing in Arizona.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Darrell Thayer.
Survivors include her husband Cal Hiner of Superior, NE; sons: Ronald Thayer and wife Denise of Superior, NE; Bruce Thayer and wife Amy of Springfield, NE; brothers Gail Bartley and wife Lynette of Webber, KS; Glenn Bartley and wife Jennifer of Cedar Rapids, IA; sister Gwendolyn Gregg of Lawrence, KS; 11 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, Cal' s children: Cal Hiner and wife Sally of Lexington, NE: Roger Hiner and and wife Barb of Arvada, CO; Susan Beningus and husband Bill of Burr Oak, KS; nieces, nephews other relatives and a host of friends.
Funeral services were held this Monday 10:30 AM, January 11, 2009 at the United Methodist Church in Superior. Rev. Dorthea Fairbanks officiating. Burial was in the Evergreen Cemetery, Superior.
