Carol L. Wahl, age 64, of Red Cloud, Nebraska died Tuesday, December 22, 2009 at the Webster County Community Hospital in Red Cloud, Nebraska.

The daughter of Caroline (Lattimer) and Lawrence Patterson, she was born Novmeber 26, 1945 at the family home in Smith County, Kansas, where she joined two older brother. She departed this life on December 22, 2009 at the Webster County Community Hospital in Red Cloud at the age of 64 years.

Carol spent her early years in the Thornburg area where her father worked as a farmer. Her education began in the Thornburg school. Later, the family moved to Inavale where Jiggs and Maggie (Lawrence and Caroline) operated a cafe for several years. It was a favorite gathering place for the young people of the town, and Carol made many good friends during this time. She attended high school in Red Cloud.

She was a hard worker and was not afraid to tackle any job. She spent some time working for Leonard and Pat Herrick helping to break and train horses. This was a special time for Carol, since horses and dogs were her favorite animals. She also worked at Jack's DX Station, Ely's Service, the Sugar & Spice Drive-In, and the Black Hawk Cafe. She worked with the Webster County Sheriff's Office as a dispatcher-jailer for several years. Then she returned to food service by cooking at Reruns at Franklin. After leaving there she went to work at the Palace Lounge, where her green chili and burritos were facorites on the menu.

Carol had many interests in life, including horses, motorcycles, car races, reading, crossword puzzles and embroidery. Her constant companion for 13 years was her dog, aptly name D-O-G.

Preceding her in death were her parents and a brother, Alvin J. Patterson.

Left to treasure her memory are two sons Larry (Treva) Patterson of Norton, Kansas; and Steven Wahl (Polly) of California; a brother, Lawrence K. (Sharyl) Patterson of Seward, Nebraska; a sister-in-law, Gisela Patterson of Hastings, Nebraska; 1 granddaughter and 4 step-grandson; 2 nieces; and many cousins and other relatives and friends.

Memorial services were held Wednesday, 10:30 a.m., January 13, 2010 at the Congregational Church in Red Cloud with the Rev. Jon Hansen officiating. Barbara Sprague was the organist.
