Kathy Shaw was born June 11, 1956 to Edward H. & Rose (Ostdiek) Kalvoda at Hastings, Nebraska. She departed this life on Tuesday, October 20, 2009 at the Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital in Hastings, Nebraska.
She grew up in rural Spring Ranch and graduated from Sandy Creek High School in 1974. Kathy married Steven Shaw on September 13, 1975, and together they farmed and raised their five children in the Edgar and Deweese areas.
Kathy was a proud wife, mother of five, grandmother of eight, beloved daughter, sister, and friend. She was a homemaker extraordinaire and faithful member of Our Lady of Assumption Church. Kathy loved the simple things in life: reading books, a beautiful country view, and a table full of family and friends. Her greatest joy came from caring for and supporting her husband, children, and grandchildren. She cherished every opportunity to watch her kids' grow and mature in events at Sandy Creek and college.
Kathy is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Steve; five children, son Brian and Julie Shaw and children Joshua, Ethan, and Christian of Fairfield; daughter Pam and David Duzik and son Nolan of Lincoln; daughter Amber and Jon Dolliver and children Ty, Avery, Halle, and Payton of Elkhorn; daughters Keriann and Mikaela Shaw of Deweese. She is also survived by her parents Ed and Rose Kalvoda of Hastings and mother-in-law Darlene Shaw of Edgar; four siblings Janet Rein, Laurie Leyda, Eddie Kalvoda and Peggy Moore. She was blessed with many nieces, nephews, extended family and a host of friends. She was preceded in death by father-in-law Raymond Shaw and close friend Bob Price. She had much love to give and will always be with us
The Mass of Christian Burial was held Saturday 10 a.m., October 24, 2009 at Our Lady of Assumption Church in Deweese. Rev. Loras Grell and Rev. Dennis Hunt were the celebrants. The rosary was recited Friday 7 p.m. at the Assumption Church Deweese. Interment was in the Assumption Cemetery at Deweese.
