Harold (Shrimp) Whitney was born June 18, 1933 in Osceola, Nebraska to H. Lloyd and Lorena(Stolley) Whitney. He departed this life on Wednesday, October 7, 2009 at the Brodstone Memorial Hospital in Superior, NE at the age of 76 years.

The Whitney family moved to Superior, Nebraska in 1936. Shrimp graduated from Superior High School in 1950 and joined the U.S. Army in February, 1953 where he served until December of 1954. On January 21, 1956, Shrimp married Dixie Jean Patton and to this union, three children were born. While employed by the Bureau of Reclamation, the family resided in Nebraska, Arizona, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Nevada. Shrimp and Dixie returned to Superior in 1994 upon his retirement.

Shrimp's favorite pastime was driving around the country to visit his children and grandchildren especially when his grandchildren were involved in sporting events and school activities. His other love was for Superior Wildcat athletics. He was an active member of the Red Caps Booster Club. Shrimp was also involved in the VFW and American Legion organizations.

He is preceded in death by his parents, sister Lorraine Meier, parents-in-law Eugene (Red) and Ada Patton, sister-in-law Phyllis Darling and brother-in-law Jim Patton.

Shrimp is survived by his wife, Dixie of Superior, Nebraska, daughter Gwen Killian and son-in-law Chipper, Snyder, OK; daughter Marty Quinlan, Snyder, OK; son Chuck Whitney and daughter-in-law Teresa, Boulder City, NV; grandchildren Amber Smith, Phoenix, AZ; Shanna Quinlan, Westminster, CO; Ricci Quinlan, New Castle, CO; Jamie Nevarez and husband David, Duncan, OK; Paul Killian, Duncan, OK; Sr. Airman Chad J. Whitney and wife, Chelsea, currently serving with the United States Air Force in Osan, Korea; Chelsa Mackarness and husband Sr. Airman Preston C. Mackarness, Cannon AFB in Clovis, NM; great grandchildren Alyssa Rockman, Bailey Smith, and Kaleb King; two sisters and brother-­in-laws, Dee and Kent Bixby and Marcella and Leon Simonsen, sister-in-law Nancy Patton and brother-in-law Max Darling all of Superior, NE; nieces, nephews other relatives and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held Saturday 1:00 PM, October 10, 2009 at the Centennial Lutheran Church in Superior with Pastor Brian Earl officiating. Burial with military honors was at the Evergreen Cemetery, Superior.

Memorials suggested in lieu of flowers.
