Debra McCartney, age 53, of Red Cloud died Wednesday, October 7, 2009 at Perkins Pavilion in Hastings, Nebraska.
Funeral services were held 10:30 a.m., Saturday, October 10, 2009 at the First United Methodist Church in Red Cloud with the Rev. Richard Fairbanks officiating. Interment was at the Walnut Creek Cemetery south of Inavale.
Debra Jean Arneson was born on January 19, 1956 to Aleck and Frances (Fogo) Arneson in Red Cloud, Nebraksa. She was confirmed at the First Methodist Church of Red Cloud. Debbie grew up on the family farm near Inavale, NE. After graduating from Red Cloud High School in 1974, Debbie attended Central Community College in Hastings. She married Dave McCartney on March 29, 1975 in Red Cloud. Together, she and Dave raised three children: Dan McCartney, Shelly (McCartney) Louthan, and Jarrod McCartney. Debbie enjoyed being surrounded by her family, and held a special place in her heart for her children and grandchildren. Debbie was a kindhearted woman who always put the concerns of others before her own welfare, even as she fought numerous illnesses. She was a wonderful letter writer and enjoyed sharing and receiving family news. She kept an extensive list of birthdays, never failing to remember others on their special day. Debbie especially loved the farm and beauty of nature, finding joy in the simple things in life. In her last days, she was able to visit her home in Red Cloud as well as the Arneson family farm near Inavale. The special moments she was able to spend in these places provided both her and her family with an immeasurable amount of comfort and joy. Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 32 years, Dave McCartney of Red Cloud, Nebraska; daughter, Shelly (McCartney) Louthan and her husband, Curt, of Nebraska City, Nebraska; sons Jarrod McCartney of Manhattan, Kansas and Dan McCartney and his wife, Day, of Franklin, Nebraska; brothers, Marion Arneson and his wife, Patricia, of Wayne, Nebraska, and Mark Arneson and his wife, Patty, of Arlington, Texas; sisters, Diane Strobl and her husband, Jim, of Lawrence, Kansas, and Sally Kern and her husband, George, of Boston, Massachusetts; grandchildren, Jamey, Caleb, and Gabriel along with numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Everyone will miss her smile, courage, brave outlook toward life, companionship, and her unsurpassed kindness and strength.
