Arthur "Pete" Pettersen, age 81, of Red Cloud died Thursday, September 24, 2009 at Bryan LGH-East in Lincoln, Nebraska.

Memorial services were held 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, September 30, 2009 at the Williams Funeral Home Chapel in Red Cloud with the Rev. Steve Wilson officiating.

Arthur "Pete" Pettersen, the son of Emma and Trygve Pettersen, he was born June 7, 1928 in Brooklyn, New York. He departed this life on Thursday, September 24, 2009 at Bryan LGH-East in Lincoln, Nebraska at the age of 81 years.

Pete grew up in the Brooklyn community where he graduated from high school. He continued his formal education attending the NYU Institute of Applied Arts & Sciences of Brooklyn, receiving his degree as a sales engineer. Following his graduation he was presented with membership in Tau Phi Sigma, the school's honor society. He moved to southern California where he was employed in the Los Angeles area in the aerospace industry.

While living in Los Angeles, Pete met and married Pauline VanMeter. This union was blessed with a daughter, Kipp. Following his retirement, Pete and Pauline moved to North Carolina where they resided until 2006, when they moved to the Red Cloud community to make their home near their daughter.

Pete's personality and character can best be described in quoting an article published in the American School News and written by Pete which stated - "By learning to study on my own, I have attained a love of books and a thirst for knowledge that I hope will never be satisfied." In his leisure time he enjoyed playing bridge with his friends at the Elm Street Center. Pete was an avid reader of mystery novels, he enjoyed crossword puzzles, and was a lifelong sports fan. He will be lovingly remembered for his kind and gentle personality, and his highly organized qualities. He cherished his family and he was especially proud of his granddaughter, Mia.

Left to treasure his memory are his wife, Pauline, daughter Kipp Pettersen and his granddaughter, Mia, all of Red Cloud, other relatives and his many friends. Preceding him in death were his parents, a brother and two sisters.
