Berneice Shackelton of Gladstone, Missouri, passed away September 19, 2009 at North Kansas City Hospital, Kansas City, Missouri.
Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, September 24, 2009 at the Williams Funeral Home in Red Cloud, Nebraska with the Rev. Michael Lee Burgess officiating. Interment was at the Red Cloud Cemetery.
Berneice Minerva Hanson was born July 27, 1916 to Charles and Martha May (Phillips) Hanson. She graduated from Red Cloud High School in 1934 then married Merley Shackelton of Esbon, Kansas. Five children born to this union were Charles, Alene, Everett, Eustace, and Linda.
Berneice was in the restaurant business for 18 years with Merley then received her teaching degree and taught school for 25 years.
Preceding her in death are her parents, husband Merley, sisters Ermal Wilson and Eunice Fritz, brothers Lawrence, Charles, and Clyde Hanson, children Linda and Eustace Shackelton, and granddaughter Giovanna Hays.
Left to cherish her memories are daughter Alene Hays and husband Jerry, Gladstone, MO, sons Charles Shackelton, Gladstone, MO and Everett Shackelton and wife Sue, San Diego, CA, grandchildren LaDaun Schoenhals and husband Vic, Hastings, NE, Brian Hays, Lincoln, NE, E'Vaun Hays, Gladstone, MO, Jeff Hays, Chicago IL, Charles Shackelton, Jr., Warwick, RI, Dennis Shackelton, San Diego, CA, and Linda Shackelton, San Diego, CA, sister-in-law, Marla Jean Raines, 7 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, and 4 great great grandchildren.
