A lifelong resident of the Red Cloud community, Pam received her formal education attending the Red Cloud schools, graduating with the class of 1959. She was united in marriage with Dean Eugene Zalman on June 7, 1959 at Red Cloud. This union was blessed with three children, Mark, Jackie and Mike. Pam was employed for a number of years as an assistant with Farm Life, and worked for over 18 years with the FSA (ASCS) Office in Red Cloud. Most recently, she worked with Fountaine Microfilming.

Pam was a member of the First United Methodist Church. She was an avid bowler and participated for years in the women's bowling league. She was a dedicated and faithful fan of Nebraska football and always remained passionate to the team. In her leisure time she enjoyed golf and playing cards with friends. Her greatest love and enthusiasm in life was for her family and she especially treasured following her grandchildren's sporting events.
