Gene Rasser, age 77, of Red Cloud died Thursday, September 3, 2009 at the Webster County Community Hospital in Red Cloud.
Funeral services were held 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 9, 2009 from the First United Methodist Church in Red Cloud with the Rev. Richard Fairbanks officiating. Interment with military graveside honors was in the Red Cloud Cemetery.
The son of Lena (Ohmstede) and William Rasser, Gene was born at Red Cloud, Nebraska. He received his formal education attending the Red Cloud schools where he was active in the FFA Chapter. He graduated with the class of 1950.
A veteran of the United States Army, Gene enlisted on January 27, 1953 and served his country until his discharge on January 26, 1955, when he transferred to the Army Reserve. Gene returned to Red Cloud to begin his life's work on the farm, working with his father and brother, Bill.
He was always happiest when he was busy with the farm work. In his leisure time Gene enjoyed gardening, family genealogy, and taking trips to Colorado to visit his relatives. He was especially proud of his nieces and nephews. Family gathering were always a highlight for him.
Preceding him in death were his parents; a brother, Bill; and an infant sister, Helen Rasser.
Surviving are a sister, Lucille Hendon and husband Jack of Colorado Springs, Colorado; his sister-in-law, Norma Jean Rasser of Red Cloud; nieces, nephews, other relatives and his many friends.
