Irene Faye Hansen, the daughter of Bryan and Edith (Casada) Tupper, was born near Riverton, Nebraska on May 14, 1931. She departed this life on Friday, August 21, 2009 at the Heritage Care Center in Red Cloud at 78 years of age.

A lifelong resident of the Red Cloud area, Irene received her formal education attending Spring Valley School, rural school district #14 and graduated from Red Cloud High School in 1949. Irene worked for the PMA Office before graduating from high school and continued that employment until she got married. On February 22, 1951, she was united in marriage with Richard Hansen during a double ring ceremony along with her twin sister, Ilene Maye and Lloyd Wulf in the Methodist Church in Red Cloud. The union of Irene and Richard was blessed with a daughter, Patti, and two sons Ricky and Dennis. The couple farmed and raised livestock in Webster County for 58 years and shared a home with Ilene and Lloyd while actively working for the Hansen and Wulf Corporation.

Irene was a member and served offices in the First United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Chaper Y PEO and American Legion. She enjoyed singing in the church choir and the Melodears, a barbershop singing chorus. Other hobbies included flower gardening and cooking.

Irene was an unselfish and untiring volunteer for many community ventures - the Lions Club pancake feeds, Heritage Nursing Home, church bazaar and the Red Cloud Alumni Assocication. In 1998, Irene and Ilene were honored by Nebraska's First Lady, Diane Nelson, with the Outstanding Community Service Award - a fitting tribute to two ladies who had served many organizations and individuals in so many different ways.

Over the years Irene was a collector of angels. Angels could be found throughout their home on the organ, end tables, in the corner curio and even guardian angels on the front lawn. Those guardian angels have helped Irene and her family throughout the past and will continue to guard over her family during her absence from this earth.

Irene will be remembered for her positive outlook on life, her willingness to help others and her determination to live every day to its fullest. While she will be missed terribly, Irene would give thanks to God for blessing her with many years of life, love and laughter.

Irene was preceded in death by her son, Ricky; her parents; her twin sister, Ilene; brothers Leo and Clinton Tupper, and a sister, Mattie Jones.

Left to treasure her memory is her husband Richard Hansen of Red Cloud; daughter Patti Yaussi and husband Tom of Lincoln, Nebraska; son, Dennis and wife Sally of Red Cloud, three grandchildren: Heidi Peirce of Lincoln; Matthew Hansen and fiancee Sarah Baker of Omaha; and Cole Hansen and wife Abbey of Indianapolis, Indiana; step granddaughters, Kasel and Lori Yaussi of Lincoln, a brother Milton Tupper of Red Cloud; brother-in-law, Lloyd Wulf of Red Cloud; sisters-in-law Doris Tupper of Mesa, Arizona and Doris Hansen Kosse of Red Cloud; other relatives and her many friends.

While the thought of flowers is appreciated, the family requests that memorials be given to the family.

Funeral services are scheduled for Monday, August 24, 2009, 10:30 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Red Cloud with the Rev. Richard Fairbanks officiating. Interment will be in the Red Cloud Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Saturday and Sunday, 8:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m. at the Williams Funeral Home in Red Cloud.
