Gary Allan Tresner, the son of Thelma Louise (Swan) and Terry Ray Tresner, was born December 22, 1949 at Blackwell, Oklahoma. He departed this life on Monday, July 12, 2010 at the Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital in Hastings, Nebraska at the age of 60 years, 6 months and 20 days.
Gary grew up in the Blackwell community and graduated from the Blackwell High School with the class of 1968. A veteran of the armed forces, he served with the National Guard during the Vietnam era. Following his military service, Gary attended Oklahoma State University where he earned his Bachelor's Degree. He was employed with Detroit Deisel at Wichita as a mechanic and then with credit management.
On April 29, 1995 Gary was united in marriage with Debby (Cooley) Chanowski at Wichita. Together with the four children he was blessed with from a previous marriage, Gary lovingly embraced Debby's four children, and they established the happy and busy home together. Additionally, through the years they opened their home and hearts to help raise and guide a number of other youths. Gary possessed a strong faith and relationship with Christ and led many to him through his passion and witnessing.
In 2003, Gary and Deb moved to the Northbranch community where they have made their home. He was a licensed minister and had worked throughout the years as a master craftsman, carpenter and woodworker. He was a member of Gideon's International, the Haysville Saddle Club, the Haysville Optimist Club, the Bethel Life Center and he was an associate member of the Northbranch Friends Church.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Deb Tresner of Northbranch, Kansas; four children, Megan Birch and husband David of Derby, Kansas; Andrea El Fadel and Billy Bargas of Wichita, Kansas, Lindsay Tresner of Wichita, and Corey Tresner and Sarah Edwards of Wichita; four step-children, Sarah Chanowski and Wayne VanNest of Lincoln, Nebraska; Matthew Chanowski; Daniel Chanowski and wife Laura, and Elizabeth Castleberry and husband Brian all of Wichita; 12 grandchildren; other relatives and a host of friends.
Memorial services will be held Friday, 10:30 a.m., July 16, 2010 at the Bethel Life Center in Wichita, Kansas with Pastor Marty Freeman officiating. Interment will be held at the Greenwood Cemetery at Wichita.
Additional memorial services will be Sunday, 2:00 p.m., July 18, 2010 at the Northbranch Friends Church with Pastor Ken Smith officiating.
Memorials will be given to Gideon's International.
